Ben holds down the low end in the band with the upright acoustic bass. A native of Central Ohio, he has 19 years of bass playing experience, and has played upright bass for the last 4 years. A veteran of more bands than he can remember, Ben’s performed everything from improvisational jazz to ear-splitting metal to down home rock n’ roll. Jaco Pastorius, Charles Mingus, Johnny Cash and Frank Zappa remain his most profound musical influences. As the most recent convert to the bluegrass realm, he has wholeheartedly immersed himself in conquering his newfound beast of a bass. Be sure to ask him about his “slapping” technique — it certainly is an ungentle art.
